Upcoming Winter Storm Warning
Posted January 23, 2026The National Weather Center is predicting a major snow event for this weekend. Snow will begin Saturday night and continue to Monday. The bulk of the accumulation will occur on Sunday Night with a potential of 8 to 12 inches, possibly more, predicted. Borough Officials and the Office of Emergency Management are monitoring the situation. As such, the Borough of Carlstadt would like to share the following information.
At this time, all garbage collection scheduled for Monday, January 26 is CANCELED. The entire town will be collected on Tuesday. This is so crews can get the roads clear and passable. Please do not put your garbage out until Tuesday Morning. Also, do not use garbage to “Save Your Spot”.
If you have a driveway, or other off street parking available, we ask that you please use it. If you have extra room, please allow your neighbors to use some of the space. The clearer the streets, the faster we can clean them.
Snow emergency routes will be strictly enforced. If you live on one of these streets, please move your car early. Vehicles that are not moved will receive a summons and could possibly be towed, AT YOUR OWN EXPENSE. Avoid this by getting your car off the street.
The Office of Emergency Management will have personnel available to assist our elderly and special needs residents. They will be offering shoveling services, clearing a path from your front door to the sidewalk ONLY. This service may not begin until the end of the storm on Monday. To take advantage of this service, you will need to call the Office of Emergency Management at 201-362-1942.
Please remember, do not call 9-1-1 unless you have an emergency. If you have questions regarding the storm, you can call OEM. Please be advised of the following:
- If you are shoveling and feel suddenly tired, exhausted, or any pain, STOP immediately.
- Use candles and heaters with caution. Keep away from materials that may ignite.
- If you must go outside, dress warmly and make sure you have shoes that will help keep you from slipping.
- If you have a fire hydrant near your house, please make sure to clear around it to make it easier for the fire department should they need it.
Stay safe, stay warm. Further notices will be sent, as necessary.
