Carlstadt/Wallington Municipal Court sessions will be conducted remotely to minimize exposure to COVID-19. Individuals scheduled to appear before the municipal court can have their matter reviewed by submitting a plea by mail form, which is available below.

There is a drop box at the entrance to the Carlstadt Borough Hall to drop off payments. Please make sure that the envelope is marked Carlstadt/Wallington Municipal Court. If you would like a receipt please include a self-addressed envelope. Please do not put cash in the drop box.

The purpose of the Municipal court system is the fair and equitable administration of justice. The goal is to provide the citizenry of Carlstadt with quality customer service in a professional manner with courtesy and respect. The operations of the Municipal Court continue to expand to protect residents, property and the unique way of life, which has become characteristic of our community.

The Municipal Court has jurisdiction over cases involving violations of motor vehicle and traffic laws, code enforcement, penalty enforcement, municipal ordinances disorderly persons of petty disorderly persons offenses whereby no indictment by a Grand Jury is required. If the County prosecutor waives indictment, the Court may also try criminal offenses where the item alleged to be damaged or obtained is under $500 or the penalty that may be imposed does not exceed a fine of $2,000 or one year’s imprisonment. All other cases or appeals go to the County or Federal Courts.

Considerable revenue is generated in the form of fines and penalties and is disbursed to the Municipal Treasurer, State of New Jersey, County of Bergen, and other State Agencies by the fifteenth of each month by the Court Administrator.
